WESTON PROJECT

She was a tall, rebellious American girl growing up in a rural, Prohibition-era American town. He was a famous photographer, a pal of Ansel Adams, dubbed the next Alfred Stieglitz by the press. They met and fell in love, photographer and nude model. Together they applied for and received the first Guggenheim Grant for photography, and set off with a camera and typewriter across the American West. Their inspired marriage would change their lives and American photography forever.

This is the story of the adventures of Edward Weston and Charis Wilson, told through their photographs, letters, and memoirs. This full-length original documentary takes viewers from the 1920s avant-garde modern photography movement, through the Great Depression and the Westons’ Guggenheim travels, and then illuminates Weston’s final days after his divorce from Charis and his battle with Parkinson’s disease. Focusing on an artistic partnership between the two, this is a story of creative teamwork and passion that stands as one of the most influential, but little known, chapters of American art.
