Objective
The NW Documentary college internship program is intended to provide students with the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience and industry skills as well as develop strong organizational and management skills.
Academic Requirements
The intern must be currently enrolled in an academic course or program. Documentation that the student is receiving academic credit for the internship must be provided. NW Documentary will work with the student's academic advisor to complete any necissary paperwork.
Time Commitment and Performance of Duties
The intern must be available for a minimum of 12 hours per week to participate in the internship program. A time commitment of at least 20 hours per week results in the most effective internship; however, needs may vary by department and by the nature of the work. An accounting intern, for example, may be required to work in the NW Documentary office; a multimedia intern may be able to perform duties outside of the office at their school or home; a production intern should expect the likelihood of evening or weekend hours, as well as travel, depending on the production schedule and deadlines of the project.
Each intern is required to keep a daily record of hours worked. This time sheet must be signed by the intern's supervisor and submitted at the end of each month.
Policies
A. No applicant or intern will be discriminated against because of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex or any other basis which is prohibited by applicable Federal, State or City law.
B. All internships are unpaid positions. In order to assure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act:
1. The internship will be similar to the training which would be given at an educational institution.
2. An intern may compete for employment openings at NW Documentary; however, an intern will not be automatically entitled to employment with NW Documentary upon completion of the internship.
C. Starting and ending dates will be specified in advance for each internship.
D. NW Documentary reserves the right to terminate any internship at any time for any cause.
E. Each intern must review all internship guidelines and sign a NW Documentary Internship agreement form prior to the start of internship.
