NW Documentary hosts Gala Event

For the Record: A Special Night of Stories and Storytellers

Guests shared a special evening of documentaries, literary non-fiction, and outstanding black & white photographs.

Filled to capacity, Ecotrust's Jean Vollum Capital Center hosted NW Documentary for its first major event. Special presentors included Brian Doyle (Best American Essays), Robin Cody (Oregon Book Award), and Kathleen Holt (Best Essays NW). Also presenting, were special guests Joanne Mulcahy (NW Writing Institute) and Native storyteller Ed Edmo. Chris Bennett of the newspace currated a breath-taking one-night photo exhibit, highlighting both traditional and edgy photo documentary.

Featured film documentaries included "Work is our Joy," by Larry Johnson, "Collectors at Large," by Patty Lewis, "Growing up Native" by Kim Harvey-Trigoso, and a retrospective montage of documetaries by Ian McCluskey.

Honored guests in attendance included Ruth and Kennie Namba plus honored guests from the Orgeon Council for the Humanities, the Columbia River Intertribal Fish Comission, Portland Development Commission, Oregon Historic Society and our pals at the Oregon Film and Video Office. A big thanks to all who attended.

Following the presentations, guests got a chance to mingle and speak one-on-one with the documentary artists during the Rooftop Reception, as well as participate in their own documentary interview, while enjoying the best of NW beer, wine, and food, along with a rooftop view of the Pearl District and the accompaniment of live music.

Folks could not stop talking about the great drinks and food and displays, provided so generously by our sponsors:
