Salmon Nation

NW Documentary rejoins its friends at Ecotrust to celebrate the Salmon Nation Block Party. A crowd of curious "citizens of salmon nation" gathered on the rooftop of Ecotrust's Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center to hear a special "fireside chat."

"Maybe it's a social movement, maybe it's a brand," said Ecotrust's founder and President, Spencer Beebe, "but it's certainly about that place where salmon go, the people who live there, about an economy and society built on the characteristics of the land."

Flanking both sides of Ecotrust's outdoor fireplace, some of the Northwest's most influential business and natural resource leaders discussed their comitment to the concept of Salmon Nation. Special guests included former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, Umatilla tribal leader Antone Minthorn, U.S. Forest Supervisor Gloria Brown, commercial logger Marc Chord, and founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard, as well as several other notables.

At the edge of the firelight's cirlce, was positioned a 10-person film crew, assembled by NW Documentary to help record the unique one-time event. Four cameras rolled and two audio engineers monitored sound levels as the guests shared their stories to each other and the audience. So that everyone on the roof could hear over the low din of the bustling Pearl District traffic, NW Documentary set up two PA speakers, adding to the technical complexity of the shoot.

As the last ember faded, an inspired audience parted, and NW Documentary went to work crafting the 2-hour conversation into a condensed and compelling video, that Ecotrust can now use to showcase their event, preserve the spirit of the evening, and recruit new citizens to build their Salmon Nation.
